640 Sacramento St., San Francisco
noon -1:30 p.m
Learn how one woman balances the communications challenges and opportunities of this iconic institution at our March luncheon.
As the associate vice chancellor of University Communications and Public Affairs at UC Berkeley, Claire Holmes will discuss the behind-the-scenes challenges and opportunities that come with being the chief communications officer for the nation’s premier public research and teaching university.
She’ll also talk about the award-winning documentary film At Berkeley, which was directed by the great documentarian Frederick Wiseman in 2013, and aired on PBS’ Independent Lens just this January. The film takes viewers from faculty meetings and classrooms to sporting events and campus protests. And it emphasizes administrative efforts to maintain its academic excellence and public role, as well as the economic, racial, and social diversity of the student body during a time of declining state funding. The film brings the uncertain but hopeful future of public education into stark focus and has begun to shape the national conversation around higher learning.
Claire is responsible for all communications functions for the campus including marketing, brand management, media relations, internal communications, issues and crisis management, digital communications, visitor and parent relations and executive support.
In 2010, she was named PR Person of the Year by PR News and has won a number of international awards from the International Association of Business Communicators, the Public Relations Society of America, and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education. Claire is also a long-time member of the Public Relations Round Table.
