Why do we do this? What motivates us, captivates us, and engages us to choose a career in what is ranked as the 5th most stressful job (careercast.com) out there — Public Relations Executive. We serve as the masters of damage control and, as such, are under pressure to perform at the drop of just about anything. We are in the public eye. We are built to have to react, adapt, act, succeed on a dime or less. Are we just drama queens (or kings) that love adrenaline and like getting thrown off balance without notice? Yes, pretty much.
Just sayin’ — we had a choice. We could have gone another route. The odd thing is, at the end of the day, I love what I do, even with the added, and often 24/7, stress. I can say that I have never done the same thing twice when I come to work, I just show up and suit up. The rewards are abundant: Informing the public about services, programs, policies that we initiate so they are informed to feeding the news media with content to keep them happy (well not always) and to get them home on time.
Did you make the right career choice? I did!

Internship Postings
As an organization that supports students working towards a career in public relations, it is fitting that we serve as a resource for summer internships in the Bay Area. University programs are urging our members to consider creating internship opportunities as well.
Beginning this month, we will add a section to our website with postings of the opportunities available. If you have an internship, please send your posting to Lisa Stockwell at lisa@lisastockwell.com.
