An Exciting Lineup for 2013
Virgil Scudder, media trainer extraordinaire, kicked off the New Year for the San Francisco Public Relations Round Table by sharing his “Scudder Method” of verbal communication with humor and flair at our 26 January luncheon. For those who missed the lunch, you can read about Virgil’s presentation here.
For those who are interested, Virgil has offered to send autographed copies of his book World Class Communication: How great CEOs win with the public, shareholders, employees, and the media (Wiley; October 2012) to any member who sends him a check for $40.00 and a note on how they would like it autographed. Mail the check to Virgil Scudder, 100 Warren Street, Apt. 806, Jersey City, NJ 07302.
Virgil also announced that he will soon be publishing an online newsletter. To subscribe send a request to virgil@virgilscudder.com.
On 26 February, Larry Kamer, crisis communications consultant for City College of San Francisco, will join us to share his insights on the front-page issues facing one of the nation’s largest community college systems. How does one handle communications about the potential loss of accreditation and threats of closure for CCSF?
For those of you who plan even further ahead, mark your calendars for 26 March, when Professor Kit Yarrow, a consumer psychologist and expert on Gen Y will speak. Learn more about communicating with those born between 1982 and 1995, also known as the Millennial generation.
New Board Members
Two new board members have been named to fill positions vacated by resignations. Please welcome Whitney Greer, of Brandularity, who will serve the remainder of John Goodwin’s term and continue as co-chair of the Holiday Party Auction Committee. Also joining the board is Barbara Koeth, of Charles Schwab, who will fill Debra Jack’s slot and serve as the Program Committee chair. We appreciate the fine service of both John Goodwin and Debra Jack and welcome our two new board members.
Volunteers Needed
Patsy Barich, of Bon Mot PR, the new House chair, needs volunteers to help her with luncheon check-in. And, we need a Holiday Party chair to begin planning our biggest event of the year, tentatively scheduled for 10 December. Additionally, Lisa Stockwell and Maureen Knoll, our Communications chairs, would love to have members volunteer to write reviews of our Lunch presentations.
Membership Renewal
Please be sure to renew your annual membership by 15 February. Dues remain $65 and can be paid online at http://prrtannualdues2013.eventbrite.com or by check.
Duane McDowell, PRRT Historian
I am saddened to write that Duane McDowell, a loyal and active member of the PR Round Table for uncounted years, passed away 15 January. Many of us know Duane as the conscientious historian of the PR Round Table and the author of cleverly-rhymed poems recited at the annual Holiday Party. Duane was a regular attendee at our monthly luncheons, in past months accompanied by his son, John McDowell.
Memorial services were private. The family asks that memorial contributions in Duane’s honor be made to the PR Round Table’s Phillip N. McCombs Scholarship Fund. For more about Duane’s career, please read more here.
