An Eye on the Rich and Stylish
Come hear how the San Francisco Chronicle Style section comes together every week, with award-winning Style reporter Carolyne Zinko. Zinko has worked at The Chronicle for 21 years and been keeping an eye on the rich and stylish for more than a decade.
The Sunday Style section focuses on the spirit and creativity of innovators in the region, profiling interesting people and featuring trend stories, coverage of notable weddings and parties, and tips on beauty, makeup, shopping and sales.
Zinko thrives on learning how people live and sharing their stories. She is not shy in telling you that even when you’re writing about fluffier things, you still have to tell a story – and telling that story well is the challenge. In fact, she believes that if she had not worked as a hard-boiled news reporter before joining Style, she would not have been able to recognize and report some of the stories she’s most proud of.
Yes, she has written about temporary tattoos for women’s breasts, called “Tata-Toos,” and about padding to put into your underwear to plump up your buttocks, called “Bootypop.” But she would prefer that you remember her for stories like the following: “Facebook face-lifts: In the photo-sharing digital age, more are turning to surgery to look their best;” AND “Tech Reboots the Old Guard: Titans of the digital world find a seat at the table of arts patronage in San Francisco, from music to museums, bringing an infusion of new ideas and new money; AND “Your Private Clubhouse Awaits: The Battery puts out a welcome mat with one tiny catch: It’s invitation only.”
Carolyne Zinko, a native of Wisconsin, joined the San Francisco Chronicle in 1993 as a news reporter covering Peninsula crime, city government and political races. In addition to working for the Style section, she contributes to the Style blog, SF Unzipped, and has won several local awards for her reporting.
