Long-time San Francisco Public Relations Round Table member and former Board member Patsy Barich, a marketing and PR professional whose work included break-through marketing and PR in food and beverage, lifestyle, publishing and education/non-profits, passed away on Saturday, July 21, 2019, after a year-long battle with cancer.
Her work included media outreach, social media and publicity campaigns for clients ranging from McDonald’s restaurants and Peet’s Coffee and Tea to Save the Redwoods League, Robert Half International and Grace Cathedral, and included the out-of-state launch of Real California Cheese. She garnered enviable placements on NPR, CNBC, Reuters, the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, Bloomberg News, Reuters, the Associated Press, the San Francisco Chronicle, Fast Company, Saveur, Delta Sky and CHOW.com, among others.
“Patsy was always in demand with clients, yet she found the time to join our board and handle communications until her illness in 2018,” said Hatti Hamlin, SFPRRT Board member. “She had a rare combination of the analytical and the creative. She’d always know the best day — and time — to send out a club missive, as well as the perfect subject line. She was a great friend and colleague.”
“Among her many fine qualities, Patsy was a gifted writer and editor. She was quick with a turn of phrase, attuned to the nuances of punctuation, and could spot a malaprop a mile away,” said former PRRT Board Member Nancy Crowley, director of Communications for the San Francisco Sheriff’s Department.
Patsy is survived by her partner, Jose Martinez, and daughter Nora Barich-Groshong. You can send condolences and cards to both of them at 910 Dartmouth Way, Concord, CA 94518. Services are private.
