Leading the Nation’s Oldest Public Affairs Organization into the Future.
At our May luncheon, Gloria Duffy, President and CEO of The Commonwealth Club of California, will share some of the challenges of keeping the nation’s largest and oldest public affairs forum relevant to 18,000 members and an intensely loyal radio and internet audience. Founded in 1903 and headquartered in San Francisco, the Club presents more than 450 speeches, panel discussions and debates on a broad range of public policy issues each year. The Club publishes The Commonwealth magazine and broadcasts its programs weekly on public radio, the Internet, and commercial stations around the United States.
Dr. Duffy served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense and Special Coordinator for Cooperative Threat Reduction during the first term of the Clinton Administration. She was responsible for negotiating the denuclearization and dismantlement of weapons of mass destruction in the former Soviet countries of Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and Kazakhstan.
Dr. Duffy holds Ph.D., M. Phil. and M.A. degrees from Columbia University and an A.B. magna cum laude from Occidental College. She is the author/editor of two books, International Arms Control Issues and Agreements and Compliance and the Future of Arms Control.
