Take Me Out to the Ball Game
How do you stay on top of communications for a sports team whose fate rises and falls with each game? How do you coordinate the team’s PR efforts with every individual player’s own PR/marketing reps and agents? What are the highlights of working with the past decade’s most successful championship baseball team?
Don’t miss our October lunch, when Shana Willens Daum discusses her role as the VP, Public Affairs & Community Relations for the San Francisco Giants.
Shana Daum’s career in sports media and public relations spans two decades and includes stops with four professional Bay Area teams, including the Golden State Warriors, San Francisco Spiders (International Hockey League), San Jose Lasers (American Basketball League) and San Francisco Giants.
Daum initially joined the Giants in 1999 to assist with the public relations efforts during the final construction phase of AT&T Park, as well as its opening celebrations. Since 2001, she has overseen public affairs and community relations, primarily responsible for managing the Giants community programs and initiatives as well as the business public relations and media activities for the Giants and AT&T Park. In addition, Daum manages player relations and works on a number of special events, including four World Series appearances and three World Series Parades, three World Champion Trophy Tours, Tim Lincecum’s No-Hitter Commemoration and Matt Cain’s Perfect Game Celebration, the World Baseball Classic, 2007 MLB All-Star Game, Barry Bonds’ historic home run pursuit and the organization’s 50th Anniversary celebrations.
Daum has served as an instructor of public relations and strategic communications in the Sports Management Master’s Program at the University of San Francisco and also served as media director for the East-West Shrine Football Game. She is a graduate of the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce’s 2002/03 Leadership San Francisco Program.
